Angenieux Zoom 70 210mm F3 5 Canon FD Mount W Caps RED Epic Alexa 5D BMPCC | eBay

I have collected many of those 80/90's Angénieux lenses for years, and this is the best I've ever come across. Angénieux is a world renowned French company that makes the best professional cine lenses in the film and TV industry.

This gorgeous Angenieux zoom lens is nicely finished, with a soft black satin finish. Moreover, it is in absolutely perfect condition! Like new, literally! Note that this lens is very rare and hard to find, especially in this exceptional condition. They usually go for between 900$ and 1200$ on eBay, depending on their condition, and I bought this one from Kevin Cameras last year for 1550$, as it was also one of the best they have ever seen. As a reference for the glass quality, just imagine that these lenses were mainly made for Leica cameras and they had to be up for par with Leica lenses, known to be the best glass in the world. The build quality is first class, and its association with Leica cameras has most likely something to do with the high resale value today (think investment)! Originally, the lens came in a luxurious wooden box, fit for a jewel. Unfortunately, mine came sans from Kevin Cameras... (but it's the lens you shoot with, not the nice wooden case right?!)

I own 3 of those for when I shoot multi-cameras and I'm selling the best one to downsize my collection and buy new lenses. I'm a professional film director and cinematographer with 30 years experience and this lens has been one of my favorite to use on my RED EPIC DRAGON 6K professional digital cine camera, with the addition of a FD-to-EF adapter ring. The ring is cheap and easy to find in any good camera shop or online. You will be able to fit and use this lens on literally ANY DSLR camera out there and provide professional cinematic results only attainable with expensive professional rental cine lenses. Whether you're on a big shoot or a small size indie set, you can click it on your RED EPIC, ARRI ALEXA or F65, or on your Canon 5D, Panasonic GH4, BLACK MAGIC camera or any other! Just get the appropriate FD mount adapter ring that fits your camera lens mount!

I've used this very lens on many feature films, commercials, short films and music videos and the footage is absolutely fantastic! I've had many clients and other professionals insisting I use this lens after they have seen the resulting footage. This zoom lens has may advantages besides it's price and amazing quality: It is much lighter, much smaller and has a much more cinematic feel and rendering than the equivalent Canon 70-200mm (plus the extra 10mm focal length!) for a mere stop less. It's bookeh is uniquely stunning and it's size and weight makes it a real joke to carry around and travel (as opposed to ANY of the much bulkier 70-200mm out there on the market). It is literally HALF the weight and volume!

With the advent of DSLR filmmaking came a collective groan from camera assistants that was heard around the world... One of the first rules of cinematography is that the subject should be sharp. ALL modern DSLR cameras don't offer a number of ways of achieving sharp live motion shots. And autofocus is a definite no-way when it comes to narrative composition and storytelling where you want to decide and control when and where you want your focus to be. And flicking the autofocus button on your lens from auto to manual just won't cut it! If you have any experience trying to pull manual focus on any DSLR lens, you know it's an almost impossible task to get any take spotlessly sharp. You endlessly get that now famous and mocked "5D" depressing low budget soft feel. To try and get a real clean and sharp take is an annoying, frustrating and time consuming process that creates onset tensions. It's so tricky that it requires either a whole bunch of accessories or a lot of takes! Well this Angenieux zoom lens has a focus toe (or stop)! It doesn't have the annoying endless (auto)focus ring rotation of the EOS Canon autofocus lenses or others. You can really pull precise focus OR rack focus with a Follow Focus unit and keep your marks take after take, just like with a real cine lens! Your 1st AC will love it! And love you for it! (I know mine do!) You simply need to strap a lens gear ring on the lens and use your preferred Follow Focus unit normally and naturally! A real walk in the park!

Remember that DSLR lenses are not meant for continuous focus tracking! They are meant to focus at discrete instances and snap off a shot. As a result they have different operating characteristics, many of which are non-linear, as opposed to cine lenses In English, the position of the AF servo doesn’t have a direct correspondence to the focal distance. This Angenieux zoom lens keeps it's focus at any focal distance!

If you are a demanding and perfectionist filmmaker with high quality image expectations and you are looking for professional film result, then this lens is for you! You're getting a professional lens for the price of an average amateur DSLR bulky, inadequate and annoying-to-use lens. It's cinematic quality and bookeh will blow your eyes and it's compact and light qualities are perfect for even the rudest Run & Gun style shooting! It's the perfect lens for indie filmmaking!

And the last thing to keep in mind is that cameras change all the time, but lenses are forever!
