I'm new here, and few days ago i downloaded the Vegas trial 6 platinium from Sony's site. I installed it and opend the program. When I open it it says:
Unable to read Media Manager assembly and class names from registry.

    so I press OK.
Now when i try to import a video/audio it says:
An error occurred reading the file. Make sure you have read access to
the file/folder and that it is not corrupted

and it does not import the video/audio!!!

What do I have to do?

    Thanks!

    maybe ...

you should remove the media manager altogether. I think I've read about that on this forum.

For your capture (Project media / cam icon / Prefs / Disc management) select the right (the one YOU choose) file / folder on your hard discs.
Later, when you want to read this file, don’t forget to OPEN this HD first. If not Vegas can’t read it !

And, on a French speaking forum, please try french language. Even if bad. Even if very bad too. Thanks.

PS. To avoid that fat and useless Media Manager:
Options / Preferences / General / clear the 3rd item from the end.
Close Vegas / Open Vegas again.
    It works ! Light ! Light !

I removed the third box, pressed OK, exited and entered the program, but it still does not work!!
    What do I do wrong?

    thanks.

I answer again, in french now.

1- Pour mon tutoriel j'ai utilisé VEGAS 6, et non VEGAS PLATINUM.

2- Quand je dis éviter MEDIA MANAGER, le chemin décrit pour SUPPRIMER son apparition est celui de VEGAS 6. Pour cela décocher l'ante pénultième case (in english: ante precedent = the 3rd from the list end, about this MM).

4- "An error occurred reading the file. Make sure you have read access to
the file/folder and that it is not corrupted".
    See 3-.
Are you sure the video you try to capture is a right one? Try and look down here:
Sony Media Software - Vegas Movie Studio+DVD Platinum Edition
    Read the bottom part (Hardware/Capture/Export).

If all is wrong, clear V Platinum off.
    Close Windows.
    Open Windows.
Install V Platinum again. Better the last version: 6.0b at:
Sony Media Software - Downloads - Vegas Movie Studio+DVD Platinum Edition
    Notice: same page:
    "Vegas® Movie Studio™+DVD Platinum Edition
Please Note: This trial version will allow you to use all product features for 30 days, except for HDV and DVD Handycam capture, and export to certain formats that require third-party licensing (i.e. MPEG and MP3)."

Then, tell us what you can do now.

Ok. But just for the last time.
    My 3- said:
If you can't open a file the reasons are:
Either the memory (hard disc, USB key, CD or DVD, ...) is off. Open it first.
Either you must show your PC the RIGHT place to find this file. Maybe you put it in another folder and Vegas can't find it where it's supposed to be in.
Or The file type is not a recognized one by Vegas. And a NLE window says it cannot open it.
Another reason: your TRIAL version. I don't think so.

Another reason a mis installation. The true reasons are numerous (conflicts...).

You wrote "Should I reinstall it???"
    My answer is YES.

But better, contact first the connoisers at:
Sony Media Software - Forums - Vegas - Video

    Good luck.
