I have this exact camera. It used to work fine back on my old 450mhz machine. I just tried installing everything on my current machine: 1.2ghz AMD, 768mb DDR RAM, 7200rpm 20gig, Geforce2GTS.

The Texas Instruments 1394 driver is loaded fine.

The Studio DV software loaded fine. I upgraded to the latest version.

However, when I go to capture video, I get: "Studio DV cannot initialize the DV capture device."

The computer never recognizes the camera when I plug in the 1394 cable.

"Support Non-Compliant Devices" mode doesn't help.

I've rebooted, powered down, and plugged and unpluggwed several times.

I've switched the location of the card itself to a new PCI slot.

DVSwitch sounds like it might be helpful..but it won't run under Windows ME.

I figure it's one of several things.

    1. The card is not operating correctly.
-However, if this was the case, I woulden't think the driver would load, let alone the software load as well.

    2. The 1394 cable is faulty.
-Could be..I don't have a second one to swap out with. I suppose I could invest in a new cable...but this is the exact same cable I used with my old machine, and it's been doing nothing but sitting for the past year.

    3. A connector is bad somewhere.
-I highly doubt all 3 connectors on the board would happen to go bad, so the only thing that could possibly have gone bad is the connector on the camera. And again, it just hasn't been used for a year. And I don't happen to have a spare DV cam sitting around to swap out.

All three components worked like a charm last year. Camera, cable and card. The only thing that has changed is the computer.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Ian

We have had alot of reports of problems with that your Cam. It may not be 1394 compliant.

Jon T. told me in another post thread that I needed to to download the latest version of SDV 1.26. It help solve about a third of my problem. If you owned an HP Pavillion of some sort, I would tell you to wander over to their board and see if you could hook up with a true Studio7 DV buff named Tony. That's who could get you rolling. The other things I did was uninstall/reinstall StudioDV and Moved my firewire card from the exsisting slot to an open one. Between two different forums providing two-thirds of my solutions and some common sense on my part providing the rest, I am up and running. I will check back and see if you get it or need more help. I'm, in no way, shape or form, any kind of expert, but I do know how to get in touch with Tony.

Everytime when i hook it up or plug it in the 1394 and start capture, it said can't connect with my DV. What???????? I looked at the manual over and over, NO REAL SOLUTION CAN HELP ME. My comp is a P2 450 with 20GB 7200rpm HD, Viper V770 Ultra card, and 3xx MB Ram. Just hope some expert or Pinnacle technician can help me out........... HELP!!!!!!!!!
