What's new in Premiere 6.0
1.Timeline window
The Timeline window has been enhanced to make editing easier:
Flexible editing tools Tools and tool icons match to make them easier to identify. Tool behavior is consistent for all editing tools in all situations. You can now create a new track simply by dragging a clip to the bottom of the Timeline window. The selection tool lets you select discontiguous objects in the Timeline. Additional buttons in the Timeline window provide easy access to commonly used commands.
Adding and editing keyframes Premiere now displays keyframes in the Timeline window, where you can add, delete, and move them. From within the Timeline window, you can also display the settings for each effect or even delete an effect. Keyframe editing functions are available from context menus, window menus, and keyboard shorcuts. Tools for navigating keyframes are also available from menus and keyboard shortcuts. You can selectively display the audio waveform for a track to speed up screen refresh while still letting you see both the waveform and the keyframes. When the Video 1 track is expanded, tracks 1A and 1B have separate keyframe tracks.
Adding transitions Premiere automatically corrects track assignments in the Timeline window, if necessary, to ensure that you can always add a transition. You can undo any such change made by Premiere. Premiere also alerts you when a clip is too short to permit a transition, and offers solutions to fix the problem. In addition to the standard centered alignment for transitions, you can specify that the transition starts or ends at a cut, and set your selection to be used as the default alignment. You can easily replace a transition in the Timeline by dragging a new one on top of it.
Improved performance Premiere is faster and easier to use.
Batch to Timeline To aid in creating storyboards, Premiere lets you organize a set of clips and then bring them into the Timeline window with a single command. Organize clips either by sorting them or by selecting them in the desired order. Before moving clips into the Timeline, specify an overlap and a transition to be used between clips.
Other interface improvements Moving a clip in the Timeline automatically closes the gap between the adjacent clips. The slip, slide, ripple, and rolling edit tools are now more versatile and offer improved handling of blank spaces between clips.
2.Redesigned project window
The Project window has been improved, and the use of bins and libraries has been simplified. The Project window now displays bins, so you can select a bin and see its contents, all within one window. Because bins now can be shared among projects, libraries are no longer needed. The Project window displays a thumbnail image of the selected clip, which you can play. Use this thumbnail and the Poster Frame button to set the frame that identifies the clip in the Project and Timeline windows. New icons are included for setting up the Project window and for creating and locating objects.
3.New audio features
Improved sound editing and mixing provide the kinds of audio control available in a studio. New and enhanced audio capabilities include:
Audio mixing Premiere now includes an Audio Mixer window for controlling gain and panning in real time during playback. Controls are laid out simulate a studio mixing console, and include VU meters and mute and solo switching. Group channels together to permit controlling them simultaneously.
Timeline audio editing features Copy, cut, and paste sections of fade settings in the Timeline. You can also smooth a section of fade settings created with Audio Mixer window, or even create single-track audio cross fades.
After Effects audio filters Premiere now supports the use of Adobe After Effects filters, including filters created for After Effects by other companies.
Audio formats Advanced audio formats, such as MP3 and , are now supported in Premiere.
4.New palettes and palette enhancements
Premiere now has two new palettes: the Effect Controls palette, and the History palette.
The Effect Controls palette, modeled on the Adobe Photoshop feature, lets you see and work with all filters and effects applied to a clip.
The History palette, which is based on that palette in other Adobe products, lets you jump to a specific state in the project without going through all the interim undo states.
The Filters palette and the Transition palette are more consistent in layout and operation. To make transitions and filters easier to locate, they are contained in folders within the palettes. In both palettes, you can reorganize content and hide selected items that you seldom use.
In the Windows version of Premiere, you can now import audio CD files.
5.Miscellaneous enhancements
Many of the new features in Premiere don't get the visibility of other features used day in and day out, but can greatly enhance your efficiency nonetheless. The following are just a few of these other areas improved in this release:
Better compatibility If you upgraded from Premiere 5.0, you will not need new drivers. In addition, Premiere can export hinted QuickTime movies, which can be played back on a variety of movie players.
Beginners mode
DV and Web integration On Mac OS systems, Premiere works with most digital video (DV) camcorder without requiring setup or separate drivers. Premiere includes support for non-square pixel aspect ratios, easy-to-use DV presets, and a DirectShow module for importing DV type 2 .AVI files. Web integration includes support for streaming audio in Real Time, Microsoft, and QuickTime 4.0 formats. You can also import and export MP3 audio. Premiere is integrated with GoLive and other Adobe Web publishing solutions, providing a quick path to the Web.
