Discussion : ATI AIW128 / Rage Fury Pro / AIW 128 Pro

Hello,

Could you please tell me if the ATI AllInWonder 128 32MB keeps any technical advantage (and which ones ;->) over the last Furry Pro 32MB Video In/out card (except for the TV Tuner) ?
If I understood well what is given on your WEB site, Furry has greater 3D capabilities, and its Video version includes the same chip (Theater) as the AIW, which let me think that its Video capturing/editing/outing capabilities should be similar. Is the Furry version going to replace the AIW ?

Thank you for your inquiry and interest in ATI products.

We have provided the following information for your review and consideration regarding the differences in these two products.

What is the difference between the RAGE FURY PRO and the All-in-Wonder 12832MB products?

(i) in terms of video capture performance?
The All-in-Wonder 128 32MB product supports .AVI, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video capture up to 720x480 30fps (720x576 25fps in Europe). The All-in-Wonder 128boards have composite video in & out as well as S-Video in & out. TheALL-IN-WONDER boards can capture video at resolutions up to 720x480 and frame rates up to 30 frames per second, along with Stereo, 44khz, 16-bit CD-quality sound. Files can be captured to AVI video format files using "raw" video codecs such as YUV9, YUV12 or YUV16 or using ATI's software videocompression to capture to ATI's proprietary codecs - ATI VCR 1.0 and ATI VCR2.0 file formats. The ALL-IN-WONDER 128 and ALL-IN-WONDER 128 PRO boards add the ability to capture MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video files in real-time.
The RAGE FURY PRO on the other hand will support .AVI capture only and will have S-Video and composite video inputs as well as S-Video out (no composite out).

(ii) in terms of video output performance?
The 16MB version of the All-in-Wonder 128 uses the ImpacTV2 while the 32MBversion of the All-in-Wonder 128 and RAGE FURY PRO both use Rage Theater chipset for video input and output. The Rage Theater chipset will provide higher quality preview/capture.

(iii) in terms of graphics 3D/2D performance?
The RAGE FURY PRO uses the Rage 128 Pro accelerator chipset and therefore has improved graphics performance compared to All-in-Wonder 128 boards which use the RAGE 128 accelerator.

Why would I purchase the All-in-Wonder 128 32MB product if the RAGE FURY PRO and ATI-TV Wonder products have similar features?

The All-in-Wonder 128 products do it all in one slot. The All-in-Wonder 12832MB boards ship in retail with a software bundle that includes video editing software (Ulead VideoStudio 3.0), Heavy Gear II, Expendable and Merlin VR (3D model viewing software).

The RAGE FURY PRO won't be available until Q4'99 and will include a bundleof games but no video editing software.
